Satisfy Your Senses with Ideal Sleeping Spaces

View of a Modern and Creative BedroomIf you want to get a good night’s rest, get yourself a clean and comfortable bedroom. To feel truly at home as a renter, it is important to create a bedroom sanctuary of your own. Most people spend a lot of time – almost one-third of your life! – in their bedroom. If so, you should be taking the necessary steps to transform your room into a space that stimulates peace or relaxation. Convert your bedroom from plain and boring to fun and exciting. If you don’t know-how, you can always turn to the internet for an unlimited number of ideas!

Although bedroom updates require no landlord approval, it’s always best to be safe by checking with your landlord before you commit to changing anything. One of the best no-approval-required places to start to create a comfortable and aesthetically pleasing bedroom is with your bed. One of the ways you can turn your bedroom into a place of relaxation is to find yourself a good mattress, sheets, and pillows. These are essential to a good night’s sleep. A good mattress is one that is not more than seven years old. If yours is that old or more, consider replacing it with a new one. Or, you can try adding a plush mattress topper. As for your pillows, keep them fresh. Depending on the material of your pillow, the lifespan can be anywhere between 6 months to 36 months. A nice cotton bed sheet set is also a good replacement for your polyester sheets. Cotton breathes much better and can help keep you comfortable all night long.

Needless to say that the most comfortable bed can only do so much in providing relaxation if it’s not paired with a bedroom that’s just as pleasant. If you want to achieve an attractive and personalized space of your own, enhance the appearance of your bedroom. To do this, try tidying up your bedroom by clearing it of clutter or unused items. Watch how this simple but effective method can bring about a change in your mood. Maximize every nook of your bedroom by utilizing the storage spaces to organize your stuff. A spruced up room is key to relaxation!

Another way to give visual appeal and personality to your space (even a rented one) is to decorate it. Allow yourself to be seen in the details of your interior by putting up photos or artworks in designated places. In doing so, you’re adding color and visual interest. Aside from wall decorations, why not treat your bedroom to a colorful bedspread, heaps of pillows, and even an accent lamp! No landlord approval needed, but a sure way to add more spark to your space. If your bedroom has a large wall, try adding a colorful quilt or other items to add warmth and liven up your space. Tie-dye your curtains to get that hippy vibe or add a simple rug for a dash of minimalism. Really easy ways to decorate your place without making any permanent changes. Blackout curtains can help eliminate outside light while adding a houseplant can help freshen up the air.

Of course, there are more permanent ways to personalize a bedroom. However, landlord approval should be obtained in writing before attempting to do so. In particular, a few options could be to paint an accent wall, add paneling and a chair rail, or draw a border on the walls of your bedroom. Aside from those, you can also choose to install shelving or other fixtures on the walls. But, make sure to seek permission from your landlord first, as those changes may require relatively extensive work. If your landlord approves of those changes, then you’re well on your way to making your ideal sleeping space. A good rule of thumb is that anything you add that cannot be easily removed, damage-free, generally requires pre-approval from your landlord first.

Lastly, to improve the comfort of your bedroom, make sure that ventilation and airflow are well facilitated inside the room. This requires an HVAC system checkup and prior landlord approval, in most instances. If you need to, don’t be afraid to ask your landlord for permission to install a ceiling fan. Just remember that if you plan to make such changes yourself, any electrical work must be performed by a licensed electrician. If that’s too permanent of installation for you, you might want to go for a freestanding fan, air purifier, or diffuser, instead. These can help circulate and freshen the air in your bedroom and keep you deep in restful sleep.
